Choosing a Class

Although most people would advise to choose the Maniac type when starting up, choosing a class must depend on your playing style. Here are the pros and cons of each class type:

Maniac

Maniacs recover energy fast, allowing them to do the greatest number of jobs among the character classes.  This is suitable for players who are going to be very active in the game. Although being a maniac will help one to level up faster than the other players, the benefits of the energy regeneration bonus would become less useful as the maniac increases in level. The reason for this is that the energy is regenerated with respect to time, and not on the player's maximum energy. Also, Zynga tends to favor this class, since players would have to use the application often in order to maximize a maniac's benefits.

Mogul

Moguls generate money faster than the other classes, allowing them to grow their Mafia faster and equip them with the best possible weapons, armor, and vehicles. It would also allow them to grow their properties and businesses faster due to quicker returns of investment. This is suitable for players who are confident that they can grow their mafia to the maximum 501 members in a short period of time. However, right after arming your mafia with the best equipment possible, money would become almost useless, and can only be used for growing your portfolio.

Fearless

Fearless players recover their health faster. This is the most useless attribute among the classes. However, there is a top mafia position that only a fearless character would qualify – the wheelman. Being a wheelman  gives a chance to perform jobs at no energy cost. This is most useful when performing jobs with high energy. This is somehow the opposite of the Maniac type, slow to level up at first, but can have the potential to acquire huge bonuses later in the game.

The rule for managing your Mafia is: don't take anything more than you can handle! Don't add mafia members if you know you won't able to supply them with the best equipment.

Performing Jobs

When performing jobs, keep your goals in mind. Am I trying to level up faster, or just earning bucks? If you are going after experience, choose those jobs with a high experience-to-energy ratio. On the other hand, if you are in need of cash, choose those that would yield the most money per energy.

When there are loot celebration bonuses such as the Labor Day Loot, try to perform jobs that require less energy to give you an increased chance of getting the loot items.

Attacking

When attacking, choose players who have slightly less mafia than you currently have, unless you want to earn the Napoloen Complex Achievement. Attacking players with lesser mafia is almost a sure win, but in cases where you lose, try to examine the items used so you would learn from your experience and improve your game. Moreover, bookmark those players who yield more cash, so you could always get back to them when you need more money.

Defending

Growing and equipping your mafia with the best weapons remain the most sound method of defending against attackers. If a player attacks you, ask your mafia to attack them. There is also an option to add them to the hitlist, but it's not advisable to be in such exposure unless your level is high enough. However, you would want leave high level attackers untouched to prevent unwelcome retalliations. Also, always bank your money, since coughing out some cash on every attack would be an invitation for another.
